Projects - Health - Equipment
There is a general lack of equipment at Dedza District Hospital.
Also, some of the equipment that has broken down cannot be repaired
because of the lack of facilities in Malawi.
Staff at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of
East Anglia used their contacts to obtain books, sterilising units,
surgical instruments and other medical equipment that was sent to
Dedza in the 2007 shipping container. Local medical practices that
donated redundant equipment include Adelaide Street, Bates Green,
North Elmham, St Stephens Gate and West Earlham.

X-ray viewing box
X-ray facilities at the hospital are very basic. This causes
difficulties for the medical staff dealing with problems such as
TB. Liz Stone, a volunteer doctor who was in Dedza in 2006, raised
money to buy eight X-ray viewing boxes to be used in the wards.
Nigel Eames, a retired electronics lecturer who carried out computer
training in Dedza in 2008, was also able to try to repair some of the
broken equipment during his stay.
