Norwich Partners and Benefactors

The Partnership is indebted to the help given by many organisations and individuals in and around Norwich. This section of the website lists (in alphabetical order) some of the organisations and briefly describes their contribution.

Churches

The partnership is seeking to link churches in Norwich and Dedza. St Luke's Church in Aylsham Road is linking with St. Luke's Anglican Church in Dedza Township.

City College Norwich

City College made the Partnership a focus of its extra-curricular Enrichment Programme for 2005/06. Students and staff raised £1400 for school bursaries for 10 students for two years and a further £5452 towards the cost of the shipping container.

East of england Co-operative Socieity

The society donated £500 from its Community Dividend Fund for the guardians' shelter.

Gresham's School

Gresham's School donated redundant computer equipment and text books for various subjects.

Jarrold

The John Jarrold Trust donated £1000 towards the cost of the 2006 shipping container. Pilch sports shop gave over 30 sets of surplus sports kit for schools and the main store provided useful cardboard boxes for packing.

Local Bands

Four local bands gave their time and talents free of charge for the Blues and Boogie Night in October 2006 what raised £2500 for the Guardians' Shelter. The bands were Big Sister, Dave Thomas Blues Band, Hearts and Voices Choir and Ouagadougous.

Norfolk County Council - Children's Services

Norfolk Children's Services donated PCs that had become available through their desktop replacement project.

Norwich City Council

The link with Dedza was originally established through Norwich City Council and it continues to provide some administrative assistance. The Council has sent people to Dedza to assist with computer installation, community development and bye laws and uses the experience for staff personal development.

NPS Property Consultants Ltd

NPS provide property services to Norfolk County Council and other public and private organisations. They have donated a number of redundant PCs, printers and scanners.

PricewaterhouseCoopers

The company has given £1500 from the UK and £1500 from its South Africa office towards the cost of visits by specialists in tourism, agriculture, etc from Norwich and Dedza to institutions in the other country.

Recycle-IT

Recycle-IT, based in Thetford, is a Social Enterprise that collects unwanted computers from businesses, refurbishes them and makes them available at a low cost to the community and educational sectors. It installed hard drives in donated PCs.

Schools

Four primary schools and one secondary school are creating links with schools in Dedza. The schools provided some surplus education materials for the container. Pupils are exchanging information and artwork with those in Dedza and the schools are bidding for funds to enable reciprocal staff visits. (See School Links in the Projects part of the website).

Starbucks

Starbucks outlets in East Anglia collected books from their customers for the Partnership to ship out to schools in Dedza.

Steria

Steria is the computer outsource company for Norwich City Council. It has donated redundant PCs and printers and has sent out a member of staff to Dedza to carry out installation and training.

Tools for Self Reliance

Tools for Self Reliance is a national network of groups sending refurbished tools and sewing machines to African countries. The Cambridge group donated a quantity of tools.

Tools with a Mission

TWAM is a charity that sends new and refurbished tools all over the world to help people with employment. It donated 10 treadle sewing machines and boxes of tools from its workshop in Ipswich for the 2006 container.

University of East Anglia - Development Studies Department

In 2006, four students undertook their overseas work experience in Dedza. The Department also provided an award towards the fees for a Masters course being undertaken by the Director of Finance of the Dedza District Assembly.
